Presenter: Jim McKechnie, James R. McKechnie & Associates
Mr. McKechnie worked in aerospace manufacturing for thirty-five years in various roles from technician through senior-level management positions. He worked with General Atomics Aeronautical to reduce the costs (55% reduction in labor and 15% in material) from the Predator UAV used by the US Air Force. His leadership led to significant cost and cycle time reductions, and customer recognition for performing in a rapid-response environment. He later became General Manager of Signtech Electrical Advertising, Inc. in San Diego, California and brought about quantum gains by reducing inventory (WIP and raw materials reduced by 75%), reducing lead time (from weeks to days) and doubling net profit percentage (from 7% to 16%) during a period where the volume of work more than doubled. Mr. McKechnie earned his MBA from San Diego State University and is an instructor and one of the originating team of the Lean Enterprise Program offered by SDSU’s College of Extended Studies. He and his associates are currently providing training and consulting to organizations wishing to reduce their lead time by targeting and eliminating non-value added effort.
Women Mentoring Women in the Sign Industry
Saturday, July 19th 8:00 - 9:30 pm
“Women Mentoring Women: The Changing Face of the Sign Industry”, a seminar offered by ISA during Sign Expo 2007 in Las Vegas, received such outstanding praise from participants, that MSSA decided to offer a similar seminar during its 2008 convention.
This one and a half hour event will feature candid discussion of challenges women face in the sign industry. Such challenges as: employees respecting male business owners more than female owners, lack of confidence, different management styles between men and women, being viewed as emotional, and how to find the voice of authority without coming across as a nag will be among those discussed.
A panel of women professionals in the sign industry will discuss experiences and challenges encountered, and how to overcome obstacles. This is your opportunity to connect directly with women in the industry and leave with increased confidence, decreased stress and an expanded community of support. Open to registrants
